Release Day – Waiting for You

Yay! Today is finally the day for Waiting for You. This story has had quite the time seeing the light of day, since it was meant for All Romance Ebooks and we all know how that ended (may Lori James burn in hell).

Anyway, here is my novella of a stubborn princess, a bratty prince, and a stoic bodyguard. I had a hell of a lot of fun writing it, and I hope peeps enjoy reading!

I wrote a bunch of posts (and an author interview I have 100% forgotten), though I don’t know which posts are going to be at which places (and I only wrote the interview and seven posts, but there’s ten stops, so ???) but here are the stops! I did the interview, a post about why I wrote MMF and my issues with a lot of MFM… and it looks like I’ve already forgotten all the others. Two are excerpts. I’m terrible at this. One of them might have been my old friend Why Queer as Incidental is Important. Alright enough blathering from me.

New Release: Twilight (DwtD #7)

DwtD 7 - Twilight

LT3 | Amazon | Smashwords | Kobo | B&N

So I’ve said before that Twilight was the book I actually never had plans to write. More than anything else, I wasn’t certain I could do Avalon justice. He’s always been more than a little intimidating, given who and what he is, all he’s been through. And I’m no historical writer, as I think Midnight proves.

But my wife and friends asked, and I’m weaksauce. So hopefully I haven’t fucked up ^^

It was fun being able to write Devlin and crew again. This one obviously focuses on Neirin and Barra (and Avalon). Like Midnight, it’s divided into parts and each part is a different POV.

This book also obviously connects different threads of DwtD verse, since the final book, Dance in the Storm, will really bring them all together. The connections to DwtD and Sotk/SotD are pretty obvious, but there is also a couple of connections to Dance Only for Me. One pretty obvious, the other maybe not as much, you’ll have to tell me :3

Sadly, I can’t really discuss my favorite bits of this book because it’s all spoilery stuffs. But I do hope you enjoy Twilight, and all the shenanigans therein. And since I can’t babble about the book much, I’ll leave you with one of my favorite little bits 😊 Because nothing is more fun than fucking with Devlin.

—–

Heaving a sigh, Devlin faced Avalon once more. “So what do I need to do? This is magic beyond my experience.”

Avalon winced. “Declare it, that you give me one year of your life to give me one day of freedom.”

Devlin eyed him warily, but then stood up straight, shoulders set, and said, “I grant to Prince Avalon, freely and with full understanding, one year of life that you may have one day of freedom.”

Avalon was absolutely certain he was about to die. Stepping forward, moving as quickly as possible, he grasped Devlin’s face, kissed each of his cheeks, and finally the softest, briefest kiss he could manage across his mouth. Stepping hastily away and bracing to be hit, he said, “The bargain is struck and sealed.”

For a moment, Devlin just gaped, too taken aback to react. But before disbelief could turn to anger, the room filled with the sound of laughter. They turned to Midnight, who was laughing so hard he had to lean against a nearby chair to keep himself from falling over.

He looked up, saw them staring, and just laughed harder. “Your faces. I have never seen two people enjoy a kiss less, and it barely counts as a kiss. I—” He broke off, laughing too hard to speak. Devlin stormed past him, pausing just long enough to shove Midnight over, and left the room.

Release Day – Love Tokens

LoveTokens-f

So this is a re-release of a story I wrote a couple of years ago. Back then it was for a Halloween collection, which is why it has certain elements. But for all it’s a short, sweet and silly story, I love it dearly and had a lot of fun writing it. Chanda is an incubus who just wants to be romanced, but after being badly scorned and humiliated is resigned to be the notorious Anteros. Until a bossy little demon shows up and stakes a claim, but is utterly confounded by all this ‘romance’ nonsense. He tries anyway, though with a decidedly demon twist 🙂

Chanda was fun because he is an incubus, and an old and powerful one. His kind have been banned from positions of power because of what they can do (manipulate people, cast all manner of spells, and immediately sense who has been fucking who, among other things). But as he vehemently states, he’s not a creature of lust so much as a creature of passion, and all he wants is for someone to romance him.

He gets is a mysterious, powerful demon who promptly stakes a claim, doesn’t see the point of silly things like love tokens, and has a few endearing quirks of his own.

I hope peeps who didn’t read this one the first time around enjoy 🙂 Everybody have a good week!

GIVEAWAY: Dance with the Devil Paperbacks

In honor of the release of Shield of the Dragon, and the debut of the new editions/covers of the whole series, I am giving away one set of the paperbacks. All six to one lucky bastard: Dance with the Devil, Dance in the Dark, Midnight, Dance Only for Me, Sword of the King, and Shield of the Dragon. Winner will be drawn on September 14th. And this giveaway is international!

Note: the books haven’t much changed content-wise. I’m largely just cleaned up inconsistencies, typos, that kind of thing. I did add a bit more porn to the end of Midnight, but I don’t really count that a significant change.

If you already have the first editions through LT3, the files will be replaced so you’re GTG. If you bought them elsewhere, just email me and I’ll gladly give you the new versions (once they come out, all the books will be updated in September close to/on the release of Shield. I am two books away from having all of them ready at this moment).

Onward to the rafflecopter!

Release Day: Trick of the Light (Anti-Heroes #1)

TrickoftheLight

Superheroes are something I always wanted to do, and I mucked with them a little bit in silly shorts. But a larger idea always nagged at me, and finally one day it all started to come together.

And the first book in the series (of which there will be at least six) is Trick of the Light, which was originally inspired by conversations and comments and jokes about who pays for the damages when the supers are done fucking shit up.

The answer is Karl, at least in my neck of the woods. His job is actually pretty back burner in this story, but it does give him a unique perspective on supers and everything they do, a view that isn’t exactly what the powers that be would approve of.

It also makes him fonder of the bad guys, or at least most of them, then those same powers would approve, and leads him to taking care of and even helping Trick of the Light.

Now unlike a lot of my series, where I try to make each story fairly stand alone, these must be read in order and skipping one will result in confusion. The second book is done, and comes out in March. The third one is partially written, and I will probably try to write four as well before publishing more (but I also don’t want the series to languish too long. We’ll see, I try not to make firm plans because they always go awry).

I hope peeps enjoy Trick and Karl, and that everyone has a good week! 🙂

Meg

Karl leads a quiet life—quieter than he wants, especially since getting into a fight with one of the most powerful men in the city—but it could be worse. In a city where super heroes and villains can level a city block in a moment, it’s a good day when nothing is destroyed, especially for the man who sells super hero insurance.

After yet another date stands him up, Karl heads home for another night spent reading with only his cats for company. But a strange sound at the bus stop leads him to a shocking discovery: Trick of the Light, a notorious villain in possession of an impossible power, and currently the intense focus of a manhunt by the Grand Order of Defenders.

But Karl has never had much respect for the Order and its arrogant, cavalier super heroes. Whatever the risks, he’d much rather spend the night helping a villain, especially since once Trick is well enough to move Karl will probably never see him again…

Travel Books

So as mentioned in a previous post, Sasha and I are heading up to New York to see her family (who are not in one place, but all over the damned state). With that in mind, I have been hoarding books for some time in preperation. Audiobooks for the car, and ebooks for the locations because I don’t sleep well on the best of days and I sleep even less in strange places.

And since I like sharing, and it’s been a pretty miserable time in our neck of the woods lately, here are my shinies (and pending shinies)

THE AUDIOBOOKS

I’ve been holding on to Dead Man’s Reach for ages because I love love this series, I adore the audios, but I haven’t had a chance to listen since I suck at audio unless I’m doing something like driving. But we’ll probably listen to the other two first since Sasha is behind on the Thieftaker series. Carry On is a great book, I’ve already read it like three times, and I have it from a reliable source that the audiobook is fantastic. And of course I loved the movie for The Martian and everyone tells me the audiobook is even better.

THE EBOOKS

I actually have more of these than I will torture you with (there was a site giving away piles of fantasy books for free or .99 so my TBR tripled in like the span of ten minutes, whoops). But the highlights of my carefully hoarded pile:

The High King’s Golden Tongue

High King 5x8

So this time last year I was finally tackling a story I had been wanting to write forever: the long version of The High King’s Golden Tongue. It was a wonderful prompt that deserved more attention than I had originally been able to give it, and I was bouncing off the walls excited to finally do it justice. Here we are a year later, right back into NaNaoWriMo and High King v2 makes its debut ^__^

My favorite part was probably being able to flesh out the existing characters and add new ones. Lesto and Rene probably got one of the most significant makeovers, as they go from unrelated figures to close brothers (and Sarrica’s deceased husband their other brother). And Lord Tara, Rene’s ex lover and the palace eccentric (but not eccentric because he’s trans). There was also all the world building, which is the favorite part of any fantasy junkie.

Mostly, though, I always have the most fun when I’m writing for someone. I wrote Missing Butterfly and all the other stores for Sasha and Sam. I wrote Tournament of Losers for Piper. Midnight was written for a prompt. And High King was definitely written for Fehu and everyone who loved the original and wanted a bigger version. My stories seldom get the kind of attention that High King drew, and it made me happier than I can articulate. And 2015 has been a rough year, especially these past couple of months. The kind words and anticipation and excitement for this story has kept me going even when I wanted to just quit the genre entirely a week ago.

So thank you. I hope you enjoy your story.

Meg

State of the Everything

BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS

I have a couple of books coming out in the near future:

The Harem Master – Many read this in serial, and I hope everyone who’s been waiting for the ebook enjoy it. Definitely the most involved Tavamara book I’ve written yet. I’m really happy with it. Poly is def one of my favorite things to write.

Risk it All – Speaking of poly, this is the revamp of a story I wrote forever and a day ago. It’s set in Dance verse, the Sword of the King side, and takes place several years before SotK. For those more familiar with the Dance side, Kipling was mentioned briefly in Ruffskin, he’s the one who helped him murder Blue.

And much later this year, as many have already seen, the long-promised extended version of The High King’s Golden Tongue comes out. It clocks in at 107k (the original was 12k). It’s a very slow burn kind of romance. I think one of my favorite changes is Lesto and Rene, who are now brothers (and good at stealing the show).

ALL OF THE WRITING

In writing, I have been busy busy busy. I wrote a story for Piper Vaughn, and it was a whole hell of a lot of fun. It’s basically a 60k fairytale, based on my favorite challenges trope. That will probably come out early next year.  It’s called The Tournament of Losers.

For Sword of the King fans, the sequel is at long last done. Unlike the Dance books, you need to have read SotK for Shield of the Dragon to make sense. It takes place a short time after SotK, and the POVs are Ken, Amr, and new player Diamond. It will come out some time next year.

I have two of my three super hero stories done, Trick of the Light being the first one, Turncoat the second. The third will be Close Enough to Touch, and for those who remember, is about Minder and Byron 🙂 A whole hell of a lot has changed, but according to my betas those changes are very shiny indeed. We’ll see if I can keep it up ^^;

And for fans of The Engineered Throne, I am about a third of the way through The Painted Crown, which is about Prince Istari, who was made a hostage of Tallideth at the end of Throne. The third book will be about Bertin.

I’ve got other projects in train, I pick away at one or the other slowly when the rest of the list is being difficult. One of them is Two for the Show, which is about Nikko and Jake from Missing Butterfly verse.

VACATION YAY

In June Sasha, Sam, and I are going on vacation! \o/ Haven’t had one since I went to Hawaii a million years ago, and the other two have never really gotten to do the whole vacation thing. We are going to be having fun in Las Vegas, I’m excited. We have a spa trip planned, a day long trip to the Grand Canyon, dinner at a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, and like five hundred museums and shops we want to hit. I’ve not yet decided if I’m taking my laptop, but my work email will definitely not be open. I really can’t fucking wait.

And I think that’s actually all for now, though I’m sure I’m forgetting something. Hope everyone is having a good week ^__^

All of the (mostly Christmas) Things

First up, LT3 is running a Holiday Celebration thing and their are two Kindle Fires to give away as the grand prizes. Check out the deets here ^__^

Second up, the anthology I put together this year, A Touch of Mistletoe, comes out soon. I’ve never been the editor in charge of an antho before, it was kinda fun ^__^ I had some lovely writers on board, their stories are all wonderful. Many, many thank yous to A.F. Henley, J.K. Pendragon, Talya Andor, and E.E. Ottoman. A Touch of Mistletoe comes out on December 17th.

Related to that, Amethyst Daydreams posted a fabulous review here (it goes live on the 6th). There’s also a post for it here although I swear I set a giveaway that’s not there. I could have made that bit up, who knows with me. But speaking of giveaways, if you want a chance at the paperback you can still do that on Goodreads.

In other Christmas news, I wrote a cute little short for The Missing Butterfly here. The lovely and wonderful Emily Wells is hosting a Christmas Party, and I had a lot of fun working with her before. I don’t know how people organize and manage these massive things, I can barely manage a to do list and my own little website ^^ But scope out my post if inclined, and all the other shiny things that will be happening.

In other posting news, I contributed to Queer Town Abbey’s 12 Days of Christmas, so that post will be going live soon. Once I have the link i’ll post it.

And LT3 will be participating in the Lesbian Fiction Appreciation Event in January, hosted by KT Grant. I am stoked ^__^

In non-writing news, I am going with Sasha to see her family for Christmas, aaaaaalll the way to the top of New York. The wretched, miserable, evil cold will probably kill me. It was nice knowing all of you. Remember me fondly.

In non Christmas news, thanks to nano I am DONE with the first draft of The High King’s Golden Tongue. Final word count was 105k. My betas have assured me I’ve done an excellent job expanding the original short. I’m not sure of the release date yet, obviously, but you will see it in 2015. Much, much love to everyone who has waited so patiently for it.

With that off my plate, I am looking to work on a handful of stories:

Anti-Heroes, which is actually a set of six stories. I want to finish all of them before I send them off for editing/publishing. Anyone who has read my silly little superhero shorts for Minder, Trick of the Light, etc, everybody’s getting rewritten/expanded. Trick of the Light is finished, actually. Next up is Turncoat. Which involves a certain cowboy and cat burglar 😉

Dragon Magic, which I posted a snippet of forever ago. I have a little over 40k of it finished. If I stick to my original notes/plans, this story is meant to be in the 150-200k range. If the aforementioned cold doesn’t kill me, this definitely will x_X I don’t know how the fuck mainstream fantasy writers put out 10 book series that are like a 500k per book. Fuck that shit, ugh ugh ugh.

Star Grinders is a sci-fi story. It’s set in the same verse as Kidnapped and Meant to Be but involves a different government, the Stalarium Empire. But a familiar party planet will make an appearance.

And Clan Mordred, which was supposed to be done this year but fell by the wayside, poor thing. I turned in Pack forever ago, but it too had to get pushed aside for other things. But that will come out in 2015 and I aim to knock out CM come hell or high water. After that, I’ll bounce back to other DwtD and SotK short stories.

There are other things on my list (The Painted Crown, a tournament story I promised Piper Vaughn, to name a couple).

—-

For those who had not seen it, the audiobook for Dance in the Dark is out. And we just finalized the narrator for Midnight ^__^

And so far my releases for the new year include:

Rabbit Season
The Broken Forest
Shine Forever
The Harem Master

And I’m sure there will be plenty more to come.

Happy Holidays, everybody stay warm (or cool)!

Release Day for A Suitable Replacement! ^__^

Suitable Replacement

A Suitable Replacement
Part of Deceived verse

After three years abroad on an arduous expedition, Maximilian is happy to be home, where he can pursue his private studies in peace and enjoy not living in a dusty tent. He is also glad he has arrived in time to attend his twin sister’s wedding in a few months, and to finally meet her fiancé, Kelcey.

Instead he arrives home to be accosted by his sister’s furious fiancé, who wants to know where she has run off to and why. When they confirm the wedding is most definitely canceled, Max has no choice but to fulfill the runaway clause in the marriage contract: he must find Kelcey a new spouse.

And if that was not enough to manage, there is also the matter of the people his sister angered when she vanished…

This story is actually the result of an idea I had forever ago, somewhere on the internet (I no longer remember where, LJ?) about the idea of being required to find a replacement spouse should a marriage contract be broken. But the idea never firmed up, and as all my long-suffering readers know, my to do list changes as often as the weather. So it fell away.

But it came back to me months and months ago, while I was thinking about something else. I still meant for it to be some 20k cute and funny thing. But then I meant for Princes of the Blood to be a single book (I also meant for The Engineered Throne to be a single book, I blame Samantha, Sasha, and Michelle entirely for The Painted Crown and The Stolen Scepter).

Anyway, it turned into a novella. I love any variation of arranged/forced marriage, and would basically write them all of the time if I thought I could get away with it :3

This story also has the high honor of ‘really good smut’ from Sasha, who greatly prefers her books, reading or writing, do not contain smut.

Much love to those who endured the serial format ^__^ And I hope those of you who have been patiently awaiting the ebook enjoy it. As always, I appreciate every single person who reads my books <3 <3 <3
